Immigration Regulation Authority to be setup by India
The Government of India plans to set up an Immigration Regulation Authority to supervise and assist migration. A Bill
in this regard is being prepared and will be put up for wider consultations in public domain soon.
Why the need for the proposed authority?
Every year many miserable Indian workers are befooled by the bogus recruitment agents in the lure of better wages
and jobs abroad, only to find themselves being cheated. Thus in order to curb such facinorous practices and
forestalling illegal migration the proposed Immigration Regulatory Authority is needed. The authority will be provided
penal prosecution powers to curb the violations.

Britain imposed a new immigration regime which includes tighter rules for students, limits on skilled
professionals and new restrictions on the settlement of migrants who are already in Britain.
What is hurting Indian Students?
Now, a facility that earlier permitted Indian students to work in UK for 2 years after their courses are over, will now be
closed as a part of the Cameron government’s recent drive.
What is the response of Universities of UK?
The closure of the post-study route is opposed by Universities of UK and the British Council, as this measure would
reduce number of students from India and other non-EU countries to come to Britain for study.

As per a study by the Pew Research Center, over 77 million migrants, or about 36% of the world-over total, have come

 India (11.8 million)

As per the report USA is the:
 World’s No 1 destination for Christian migrants, who make up nearly three-quarters (74 per cent) of all foreignborn
people living in the US.
 Top destination for Buddhist migrants (including many from Vietnam).
