Jane’s Award


AAI wins international award
In acknowledgement of its distinction in the air traffic control industry, the AAI (Airports Authority of
India) won the Jane’s Award for 2012, an international award in the ‘Best Operational Efficiency’
category.
Jane’s ATC Awards have established a reputation for recognizing and rewarding excellence within air traffic control
industry.
India had sent in the nomination for the coveted Jane’s Award under the operational efficiency category featuring
Indian upper airspace harmonisation programme.
The upper airspace harmonization programme involves redesigning the airspace to increase airspace capacity
through operation of multiple ATC sectors enabled by ATS Auto-mation, networking of Radars and VHF
frequencies. The redesigning of the upper space was being taken up in various phases in the four Flight Information
Regions (FIRs)– Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata with Chennai FIR being the first one.
