Earth might face more Heat Waves: NASA
As per warnings of NASA, the Earth might face an intense summer heat wave than what it faced b/w 1951 to 1980.
Agency reveals that over the past 30 years the northern hemisphere has seen more "hot", "very hot"and “extremely
hot” summers (as classified by the agency).
Earth’s northern hemisphere, which has 90 % of the planet’s land, has become much more susceptible to experience
an extreme summer heat wave compared to a base period from 1951 to 1980.
Massive solar storm hits Earth
A pair of unusually large Solar Flares engulfed the Earth on Thursday March 8, 2012, but scientists held
that the planet may have lucked out. There were no reports of problems with power grids, GPS,
satellites or other technologies that are often disrupted by solar storms. Early indications show that it
was about 10 times stronger than the normal solar wind that hits Earth. The storm, which scientists
claimed to be the largest in five years, was triggered by a pair of solar flares early Tuesday March 6, 2012 and was
growing like a giant soap bubble. Initially, scientists figured the storm would be the worst since 2006, but it wasn’t so.
Several NASA spacecraft caught videos of the solar flare as it hurled a wave of solar plasma and charged particles,
called a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), into space.
