Swiss Company Launched Health Product in Bihar
A Switzerland-based company on 9 November 2012 launched an insecticidal bed net and community water filter in the Patna district of Bihar to fight against diseases like Dengue, Malaria and Diarrhoea.
The community water filter launched had a capacity to filter 100 lakh litres. The company is going to have a talk with the state government for support in popularising the items in Bihar. Subsequently, the products would be placed in the open market for sale.
The long-lasting insecticidal bed nets are considered by experts as one of the best defences against vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria that claim several lives.
As per the company official the ready-to-use bed net is easy to hang and requires no repeat intervention for a period of at least three years.
The basic purpose of launch was to curb the menace of spreading Dengue in Bihar where more than 50 people were diagnosed with dengue this year across Bihar. Around 285 of these cases were confirmed in the capital city of Patna alone since the outbreak of the disease in September 2012.

Adhikaar Rally Held in Bihar Demanding Special Status for the State
Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar on 4 November 2012 held and presided over Adhikar Rally which turned out to be one of most historical rally in Gandhi Maidan of Patna as far as its turnout is concerned.
The main purpose of the rally held was to demand a special category status for Bihar to touch the national average on several indicators of human development index, economic growth and development.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in his speech expressed that Bihar must be given a special category status because without any help from centre it is going to take nearly 25 years for the state to touch the national average of economic growth.
The rally was somehow successful in sending out a strong message to Central Government of Delhi which the chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed by asserting that, It is the rally of aam awam, or common people, of Bihar who think that the special state status is their birthright; if the Centre doesn't give them this right, the struggle will drip over to Delhi where a massive rally is going to organized in March 2013.
Nitish Kumar voicing over the rally asked the Central Government to set up a fresh committee which can draw a strategy to provide special assistance to Bihar and other states that figure much below the national average in terms of per capita income, consumption of power, education, health among others, so that they can be brought into mainstream.
To attract the crowd, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar political Party Janta Dal United (JD-U) had booked eight special trains and more than 10,000 buses to carry supporters to Patna from all over the Bihar.

100 years of Bihar; celebrating centenary statehood day: March

ago Bihar and Orissa were carved out of the Bengal presidency.
Bihar to get Rs 560 cr credit from the World Bank for project Jeevika
The Central Govt and the Bihar Government inked pact with the World Bank for $ 100 million additional credit to
intensify the ongoing Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project,Jeevika.
Objective of Project Jeevika:
The Project is targeted at enhancing the social and economic status of the rural poor in Bihar. The supplementary
financing will help strengthen and expand the Project to cover all the blocks in the existing 6 districts covered under
the Project. The aid will also provide a comprehensive district wide model for poverty alleviation in the state.
The Project in convergence with other government programs, has introduced a number of interventions on a pilot
basis and facilitated access to public entitlements for the poor. These include access to social security pensions for
nearly 29,000 households in partnership with the social welfare department and access to wage employment under
the MGNREGA in collaboration with the rural development department for nearly 5000 Self Help Group women.
‘Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir’: World’s largest Hindu temple to come
up in Bihar
In Bihar’s Vaishali district ‘bhumi-pujan’ (foundation laying) was done for what would become the largest Hindu temple
in the World. Rs.100 Crore is expected to be the cost of the Temple. It would be a recreation of the world-famous
Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia. It will be 5-storied and 222-feet tall temple and it will be the tallest
structure of its kind in the world. The proposed temple will be named ‘Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir‘. In the Temple
will be housed the idols of Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati, Ganesh, Surya, Vishnu and the ‘Dashavataram’, the 10
incarnations of Vishnu. The Temple will take around 5 years to construct and another 5 to give to give the the final
finishing to it.
Historical/Mythological Significance:
The site of the proposed Temple has mythological importance as Ram, Lakshman and Vishvamitra had set foot on
the site and were welcomed by the King Sumati of the Vaishali kingdom.
The Angkor Wat temple was built in Cambodia in the 12th century during the rule of the then Cambodian king
Suryavarman (1141-1152 AD). It is a listed UNESCO-World heritage site.
Asia’s first Dolphin Research Centre to be set up in Patna
The Asia’s first Dolphin Research Centre will be set up in Patna. Bihar’s State government would provide land near the
river Ganga. The centre will be under Patna University.
• The population of Dolphin in India is around 2,500 out of which Bihar accounts 60% of them.
• Fresh water dolphins are found only in three areas across the globe-the Ganga river system, the
Indus and its tributaries and the Amazon.
• The Ganga Dolphin is distinguished by the other species by its long snout and is listed as endangered by the
International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The growth of Bihar is attributed to:
Secondary and Tertiary activities like construction and services like communication (CAGR 27.23% b/w 2004-05
and 2010-11). Secondary and tertiary activities grew by 15.04% and 14.07%, respectively, b/w 2004-05 to 2010-
11, compared to 3.82% and 5.70% between 1999-2000 and 2004-05.

Bihar prohibits Sale and Manufacturing of All Tobacco Products for
next 1 year
Bihar Government prohibited the sale and manufacturing of all the tobacco products for next one year. The decision
came on the occasion of ‘World No-Tobacco Day’.
This move makes Bihar the 3rd state in the country after Madhya Pradesh and Kerala to ban tobacco
The decision is based on Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Regulation number 2.3.4 which seeks to ban
tobacco or nicotine products. The regulation was issued by the Union Government of India on 1 August 2011. Those
found violating the order would be awarded with a punishment ranging from monetary fine of upto Rs 3 lakh to
imprisonment of 1 year.

As per the latest data released by Ministry of Statistics of India, Bihar has the highest economic growth rate in the
country.
