Asian Games

The Asian Games, officially known as Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation.[1] The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
In its history, nine nations have hosted the Asian Games. 46 nations have participated in the Games, including Israel, which was excluded from the Games after their last participation in 1974.

The Chennai Open (also known during its run as the Gold Flake Open and the Tata Open) is a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. Lance Armstrong on 22 October 2012 was stripped of from all the seven Tour de France Titles and banned for life from cycling becos of doping. Organisers of Tour de France would now officially remove the name of Armstrong from all its record books that will include omission of his consecutive victories from 1999 to 2005. Christian Prudhomme the Tour Director announced that no official winners of these years would be declared and the race would follow the decisions made by the UCI.

Over Rs 150 cr grant for sports infrastructure gets Centre’s approval
A grant of more than Rs 150 crore for 14 states and one union territory has been approved by the centre to develop
basic sports infrastructure. It will be done under thePanchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme. The
states includeAssam, Chattisgarh, Goa, Kerela, Manipur and union territory of Dadar and Nagar Haveli. The amount
is meant for developing and maintaining playfields in 12,836 at village and block panchayat levels in these states.

Free higher education to students who bring honor
for the country in Sports events: Government

Government will provide free higher education to students from Universities and
Colleges who bring recognition for the country at International and National level
Sports events. Various guidelines in this regard have been approved and universities
concerned will make special efforts in terms of completion of syllabus and
attendance of the sports person due to loss of classes. The move is expected to
provide relief to sportspersons who need to spend additional hours practicing, and
miss classes as a result.
Ministry of HRD also announced launching of a national level university Cricket
league and university level Hockey league to promote sports in a big way in the
campuses.






26th Northeast Games kicked off in Mizoram
The 26th Northeast Games kicked off in the hilly state of Mizoram at the
newly constructed Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in the state capital Aizawl. The theme
of the games, being hosted by Mizoram third time, is ‘Unity through Sports’.
