Morsi under pressure to withdraw decree

Pressure has increased on Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi demanding withdrawal of powers he has given to protect himself and Islamist-led assembly writing a new constitution from a looming threat of dissolution by court order.
What powers Morsi decreed?
  • He declared that all presidential decisions would be immune from legal challenge.
  • He gave immunity to the committee writing the constitution from dissolution from court order.

Life imprisonment to Hosni Mubarak
Former President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly killing over 900
protesters protesters during the revolt against his regime in 2011. Mubarak and his sons Alaa and
Gamaal Mubarak acquitted of charges of corruption and financial irregularities. Former Minister of
Interior Habib al-Adly also sentenced life imprisonment. Former military regime key functionaries who were alleged for
killings of protesters acquitted of the charges of complicity.
 Mubarak is the first Arab leader to be sentenced after the Arab Spring.
