Agricultural Research)
P.K.B Pattnaik selected for Domien-Dutton award
Orissa’s state Leprosy Officer P.K.B. Pattnaik, has been chosen for the prestigious Damien-Dutton award for the year
2012 for his efforts in the field of leprosy eradication.
Damien-Dutton Award: It is given to people who make significant contribution in the fight against Leprosy.
Some of the other renowned personalities to have received the award in the past: Mother Teresa, Baba Amte and Dr.
Dharmendra.
Odisha was the first State in India to accomplish the leprosy elimination goal of the World Health Organisation in
2006.
Khamliana and Abdul Bari share Communal Harmony Award
Mr Khamliana from Mizoram and Md Abdul Bari from Odisha have been jointly selected for the National
Communal Harmony Award for 2011 in the individual category. The Jury headed by Vice-President Hamid Ansari
made the selection.
Mr Khamliana (56) is the founder President of the Mizoram Youth Club, a well known voluntary organisation
rendering social service and strengthening national integration in Mizoram and set up in 1990.
Md Abdul Bari (72) from district Bhadrak of Odisha is a well-respected people s leader and social activist. He is
associated with at least eight social organisations and has selflessly helped police and the local administration to
maintain peace and communal harmony.
24 Children selected for National Bravery award for 2011
24 children including 8 girls and 16 boys have been selected for the National Bravery award for 2011.
Five awards have been given posthumously.
The names of the award winners were declared in New Delhi by president of the Indian council for child welfare
Geeta Sidarth
The Coveted Bharat Award has been conferred posthumously to 15 year old Master Kapil Singh Negi of
Uttarakhand who helped his classmates cross over a flooded stream.
The prestigious Geeta Chopra award has been conferred on 13 year old Kumari Mittal Patadiya of Gujarat who
faced armed robbers and foiled a robbery attempt.
Sanjay Chopra award has been given to 12 and a half year old Master Om Prakash Yadav of Uttar Pradesh who
saved his school mates from a burning van.
Sand artist Sudarshan to receive Godavari award
