The Satanic Verses is Salman Rushdie's fourth novel, first published in 1988 and inspired in part by the life of Muhammad.
Targeting mainly at school children, Oxford University Press (OUP) haslaunched a book on Gandhi on the occasion of his 143rd birth anniversary."My Early Life," a book Gandhi wrote in 1932, appears now in a new edition published by Oxford University Press under the title, "My Early Life: An Illustrated Story", to mark Gandhi's 143rd birth anniversary.
The book, first edited by Gandhi's close associate Mahadev Desai, has now been annotated by Gandhian scholar Lalita Zackariah. Saurav Chatterjee has provided black and white illustrations.
Joseph Anton the 633 page book depicts a memoir of Salman Rushdie during his 10 years long run to protect himself from the Fatwa issued by his name was released on 18 September 2012.
Salman Rushdie’s new book reveals his life, at the time when he was issued an Iranian fatwa that ordered his death for the publication of The Satanic Verses in 1988. In the book, Salman Rushdie has characterized himself as Joseph Anton and the name is the combination of the first names of his favourite writers Joseph Conrad and Anton Chekhov.
