India, Bangladesh to jointly celebrate 90th anniversary of legendary poem, “Bidrohi”
India and Bangladesh will conjointly lionize the 90th Anniversary of the publication of the legendary
poem, “Bidrohi”, by Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam for 3 days beginning from Wednesday July 4, 2012 in Kolkata and Burdwan in India.Before in the last week of May 2012, India and Bangladesh had conjointly feted the 90th Anniversary of the publication of “Bidrohi” by Kazi Nazrul Islam by organizing a 2 day programme in Dhaka.The decision to conjointly lionize the 90th anniversary of the publication of the poem “Bidrohi” by Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was taken by the Prime Ministers of the two nations during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Dhaka in September 2011.
Who was Nazrul?
He was a famous Bengali poet, musician and
revolutionary who pioneered poetic works invoking
powerful spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression.
Full name was Kazi Nazrul Islam, sobriquet, ‘Bidrohi
Kobi’ (Rebel Poet).
Period: Birth May 25, 1899 - Death August 29, 1976
His intense poetic work and nationalist activism earned him the popular title of
Bidrohi Kobi.
‘National poet of Bangladesh’: Accomplishing a plethora of highly praised
works through his life, Nazrul is officially known as the ‘National poet of
Bangladesh’ and celebrated in India.
Nationality: Bangladeshi (Invited by the Government of Bangladesh, Nazrul
and his family moved to Dhaka in 1972, where he died four years later.)
His relation with Indian Independence Movement:
He was an ardent activist in the Indian independence movement
He was often imprisoned by British authorities.
While in prison, Nazrul wrote the "Rajbandir Jabanbandi" ("Deposition of a
Political Prisoner"). Exploring the life and conditions of the downtrodden
masses of India , Nazrul worked for their emancipation.

The 3rd Indo-Bangladesh Trade Fair 2012 to begin Dhaka. The Trade
Fair is being organized by the India Bangladesh Chamber of
Commerce and Industry.
Bangladesh honours India’s contribution in Liberation War
For their vital contribution in its Liberation War, Bangladesh honoured 77 foreign friends and 6
international organisations from 13 countries. The awards were presented at a special ceremony in
Dhaka by the Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Mr.Pankaj Saran , High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh received the award conferred on the people of India and
many other prominent Indians were also honoured on the occasion. Bangladesh President Zillur Rehman conveyed his
gratitude on behalf of the people of Bangladesh towards their contribution to the Bangladesh’s liberation war.
India, Bangladesh for Fast Track Implementation of Various Pacts
India and Bangladesh decided to speedily implement various agreements signed b/w them in 2010 and 2011.
The various agreements are related to projects under the Indian line of credit, land boundary agreement
implementation, trade facilitation measures, infrastructure development of land customs station and border haats.
They also discussed about co-operation in the field of renewable energy and nuclear energy.
Contract signed b/w Bangladesh Railway and India's Texmaco Limited
Bangladesh Railway signed a contract worth $ 16.45 million
with the Indian company Texmaco Limited Indian Company to
supply Oil tank wagons and break vans
As per the agreement, 165 broad-gauge oil wagons and six
broad-gauge break vans will be supplied to Bangladesh Railway
within a year
The wagons to be used to supply oil to power plants in Bangladesh
The project being enforced under the $1 bn Credit Line provided by India to Bangladesh
Most favoured Nation Status to each other by India and Bangladesh
India and Bangladesh to give Most Favored Nation Status to each other in terms of Investment
Agreement signed in order to promote and protect investments in both the countries
Following discussions b/w External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and Bangladesh Foreign Minister
Dr. Dipu Moni, instruments of ratification signed b/w them
Agreement to be in effect for: 10 years
India, Bangladesh to jointly set up thermal power plant at Khulna
India and Bangladesh sign an agreement to set up a 1,320 megawatt coal based power project jointly at Khulna in
Bangladesh.
